Feith Systems and Software, Inc. Replaces
Hewlett-Packard's Personnel Document Imaging System

FORT WASHINGTON, PA - Feith Systems and Software, Inc., today announced that Hewlett-Packard Company headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, has completed the replacement of its personnel employee records imaging system with the Feith Document Database (FDD), including the conversion of 7.5 million pages.

Feith Document Database is a complete industrial-strength Document Storage and Management system. FDD integrates Imaging, COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk), Document Management, Fax and Workflow with existing legacy applications quickly and easily.

As part of an ongoing re-engineering process, HP's Personnel department replaced its existing records imaging system with the FDD and custom built front-end for HP's HR systems. The new system allows HP's U.S. employees and managers secure access to personnel files using PCs and workstations.

"After investigating many systems, the Feith Document Database became our clear choice" says Chris Feduniw, information technology manager for HP's PeopleBase program. "The system offers a rich feature set that fits well with HP's standard operating environment architecture."

Phase 1 of the conversion of images from HP's legacy imaging system commenced with the installation of a 10-user FDD Management of Human Resources application at HP headquarters in CA. At completion, 7.5 million images had been brought on-line. These included employee records from resumes and letters of hire, to benefits information and other letters.

With the conclusion of Phase 1, the FDD system entitled "OFIS" (HP's Optical File Imaging System) was rolled out to all HP Human Resources users throughout the U.S.

HP employees can now access their personnel files through standard Web browsers using WebFDD, the Web version of FDD. WebFDD extends the power of Feith Document Database to corporate intranets or the Internet. It allows users to access scanned and faxed images, COLD pages, as well as computer files such as word processing documents, spreadsheets, email, and so on, from FDD file cabinets through the Web.

The FDD Management of Human Resources system architecture is designed to accommodate HP's high-volume human resources operations with FDD clients operating under Microsoft Windows. Supporting an Oracle database, FDD is running on an HP 9000 server in a TCP/IP network environment. Four HP "Jukeboxes" hold the optical disks containing over 7.5 million pages, combining high reliability with high availability.

Founded in 1979, Feith Systems has earned an international reputation for its core product, Feith Document Database, the complete document imaging, COLD and Workflow system which can quickly and easily knit together host environments and legacy applications with its own system.
